Re: Configuration of Kyle National School

It is a number of years since the school community at Kyle first requested alteration of their school patronage. Since then, much discussion and dialogue has taken place to effect that change of patron. Specifically, the Diocese of Cloyne has participated in the recent programme for divestment in the Youghal educational area. With the assistance of a facilitator the Diocese, the parish and Kyle school community have engaged in the reconfiguration of the school to the patronage of the Cork Educational Training Board. This process is now complete and will take effect in the new school year beginning September 2024. The parish priest, Fr. Tim Hazelwood is liaising with the Department of Education with regard to the property issues involved.

This is the first instance in the Diocese where a school has divested from Catholic patronage. Arrangements have been agreed to ensure the pre-sacramental preparation of the children and families who desire to celebrate the sacraments. We are grateful to all who have participated in this new arrangement and we pray that this time of transition will be positive and fruitful.
