Launch of YOUCAT Companion, Wilton, Invitation

We would be delighted if you could join with us for a combined Cork & Ross/Cloyne diocesan launch of YOUCAT Companion– A Study Programme of YOUCAT in Twenty Sessions co-authored by Fr Seán Corkery and Máirín Ní Shúilleabháin. During his recent visit to Ireland in August 2018, Pope Francis highlighted the pressing need for all of us in the Church to prioritise faith formation within our families, our parishes and our schools:
Sometimes we can think that faith formation means teaching religious concepts, and we don’t think of forming the heart, shaping attitudes. Yesterday the President of the nation told me that he had written a poem about Descartes and said, more or less: “The coldness of thought has killed the music of the heart”. Forming the mind, yes, but also the heart. And teaching how to pray: teaching children how to pray from the very start. Prayer. The training of such teachers and the expansion of programmes of adult education are essential for the future of the Christian community, in which a committed laity will be increasingly called to bring the wisdom and values of their faith to their engagement in the varied sectors of the country’s social, cultural and political life (Pope Francis, Meeting with the Bishops of Ireland, 26 August 2018).
This is the same vision that inspires YOUCAT Companion. Anchored in Sacred Scripture and in prayer, participants share and discuss their religious questions. In a group setting, participants exchange their experiences, their doubts and their life stories, thereby being formed as ambassadors for Christ in both mind and heart.
We sincerely hope you can join us on 22nd January next. It has taken three years to bring this faith formation project to fruition. We look forward to explaining how YOUCAT Companioncan now be an effective means of furthering the mission of the Church in our time.
