World Mission Sunday 22nd Oct 2017

Masses across the Diocese of Cloyne this coming weekend (21st/22nd Oct 2017) will include a collection in support of Mission Work under the direction of World Missions Ireland.

MISSION MONTH OCTOBER 2017

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, invites all Catholics to contribute to a special collection, the Mission Sunday collection. World Missions Ireland is the Holy Father’s official charity for overseas mission and is responsible for coordinating Mission Sunday in Ireland. All of the Mission Sunday materials are available on World Missions Ireland’s website – www.wmi.ie.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) Where do I send the Mission Sunday collection to?
Please consider sending your donation electronically – details for electronic transfers are included separately in this pack. If you choose to donate in this way, please ensure that your organisation is referenced when arranging this credit transfer. If a credit transfer is not possible, donations can be sent directly to World Missions Ireland, 64 Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin 6. Alternatively, donations (including those from parishioners) can be arranged through your diocesan office or representative.

2) Why do parishes support the Mission Sunday collection?
Mission Sunday is a Papal collection taken at Mass on the second last Sunday in October. It supports 1,069 dioceses in 157 countries around the world where the Universal Church is too new, young or poor to survive without our help. All parishes throughout the world celebrate Mission Sunday because it is vital to the growth of the Church in predominantly impoverished and remote areas overseas. The funds raised build much-needed infrastructure, from chapels and schools, to orphanages, clinics and dispensaries. The support from World Missions Ireland transforms lives and creates a hub from which the young Church can flourish and grow: spreading the Good News of the Gospel, ministering to the faithful and delivering essential services in health and education. Mission Sunday is one of only three Papal collections and has been especially chosen by the Holy Father as the means by which we share what we have with our brothers and sisters in need.

3) How can we continue supporting World Missions Ireland after Mission Sunday?
World Missions Ireland raises funds for the overseas mission of the Church throughout the year. Other ways of supporting the mission of the Church include: praying for the work of missionaries, becoming a regular donor, or remembering World Missions Ireland when making your will. You can also support overseas mission by sending Mass stipends to overseas priests via World Missions Ireland. An overseas priest can say Mass for your intentions and at the same time receive much-needed financial support. The Holy Father invites all Catholics to contribute to a special collection. Every person in every parish in every country where the Church is present will be celebrating together and sharing what they have, no matter how little. It is the one Sunday in the year when the Mass is celebrated exclusively for missionary activity. Donations are collected at these worldwide Masses and they go to support churches, hospitals, schools and vocations in countries where the Church is new, young or poor. It is also the one Sunday in the year when your generosity goes directly to help mission parishes overseas and reach out with Jesus’ message of hope and love. World Missions Ireland is the Holy Father’s official charity for overseas mission. It is responsible for coordinating Mission Sunday in Ireland and, through local bishops, churches, and missionary congregations around the world, ensures that resources are distributed equitably and justly on the basis of need. In offering our prayers, we join with missionaries everywhere in communion and compassion to support them in spreading the Good News, and by giving a donation we respond to Christ’s call to feed the hungry and clothe the naked so please give what you can. Thank You.
