Young Adult Retreat: Introducing Pope John Paul II’s teaching on Love, Sexuality, Marriage and Family (including his ‘Theology of the Body’)

In his papacy, Pope John Paul II had a special interest in articulating the Church’s vision of human love, sexuality, marriage and family life. Within his papacy, he gave a series of lectures which have come to be known as his “Theology of the Body” in which he reflects, mainly through the light of Scripture, on human love, sexuality, marriage and family life. Other famous writings by Pope John Paul II on this topic include Familiaris Consortio, his 1982 Apostolic Exhortation on Family Life and his 1994 Letter to Families Gratissimam Sane.

The Young Adult Retreat in Cobh will include sessions of both prayer and study. The study will examine some of Pope John Paul’s key insights into God’s revelation of the purpose of the human body, human love and sexuality. The Retreat includes one overnight stay. The Retreat will include inputs from Fr Eamon Roche (CC Midleton), Fr Tom McDermott (CC Inniscarra) and Siobhan McCraith (a Catholic wife and mother from Ring, Co. Waterford) and has arisen from a request by the Youth 2000 prayer group based in Midleton. The retreat is open to all young adults under 35 yoa. No prior expertise of the above mentioned writings or topics is necessary; the retreat is aimed at ‘beginner’ level while, at times, addressing some ‘intermediate’ level topics.

Programme:

Friday Dec 2nd:

Arrive: 7pm
Friday evening will include an introduction to the retreat as well as Holy Mass and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Retreatants stay overnight in the guesthouse of the priory.

Saturday Dec 3rd:

Various study sessions, prayer and Holy Mass. The retreat ends at 5pm Saturday.

Meals provided are: Breakfast and Lunch Saturday. Note: No meal provided on Friday evening.
