Closing the Year of Mercy – Event in Cobh Cathedral (19th & 20th November 2016)

Sunday 20th November 2016 marks the conclusion of the Year of Mercy throughout the world.

The closing of the Year of Mercy will be marked in Cobh Cathedral by a special ceremony following 7.00pm Mass on Sunday Nov 20th. In this ceremony Bishop Crean will officially close the Holy Door.

For long periods throughout the weekend of 19th/20th Nov there will be adoration of the Blessed Sacrament available in the main body of St Colman’s Cathedral i.e. the Blessed Sacrament exposed on the main altar. This adoration will continue right through Sunday upto 6.30pm.

Confessions
Confessions will take place from 11am to 5pm Saturday and from 7.00 – 10.00pm on Saturday and on Sunday 1.00pm to 6.00 pm.

Refreshments
The Parish Centre will be open for light refreshments from 12.00 to 1.00 and 4.00-5.00 pm on
Saturday afternoon and from 5.00-6.00 pm on Sunday.
Refreshments will be served after the 7pm Mass in Park Road centre – where we host hospitality
after the Chrism mass each year.

Concluding ceremony
You are welcome to come to concelebrate the concluding Mass – which is the usual scheduled
7pm candlelit Sunday Mass – to be presided over by Bishop Crean. The format for the closing of
the Holy Door will consist of a procession at the end of Mass through the Holy Door to the outside,
and the Bishop will formally close the Door as he will be the last to leave the cathedral in solemn
procession.

All in attendance at the Mass will be provided with candles which will be lit for the renewal of Baptismal Promises and prayers of the faithful, and then re-lit for the Procession at the end of Mass.

We encourage early arrival to enter the cathedral via the Holy Door. Parking restrictions will be in place from 5.00 pm so visitors are encouraged to park in the car park adjacent to the cathedral.

We encourage you to visit the Cathedral at any time in the next few days in order to avail of the indulgence for the Year of Mercy.
