Cork Scripture Group

Your Word, O Lord, is a lamp for my steps and a light for my path.

Psalm 119:105

On Monday Nov 11st, Cork Scripture Group celebrated the graduation of the group who had completed the two year Diocesan Certificate in Gospel Studies. The 17 graduates came from the Dioceses of Cork and Ross and Cloyne. The group received Diocesan Certificates co-signed by Bishop Fintan Gavin of Cork and Ross and Bishop William Crean of Cloyne.

The graduation evening began with a liturgy of the Word which was followed by the keynote speech by Fr Ben Hegarty OP (a member of the committee). In his speech he journeyed through the Scriptures to trace the wonder of God from the seventh day in Genesis when God rested and gazed at the wonder of what he had created right through to the glory of the resurrection. Everyone received their certificates and a book on the Living Jesus to help them further their studies on God’s Word.

The course consisted of four modules each of four weeks duration and covered each of the four Gospels. Each module also included a Saturday workshop which was open to the public.

Cork Scripture Group was formed nine years ago to promote Scripture in the Cork area. As well as running regular modules on the Bible it also promotes Unfolding the Word, which is parish-based and consists of Scripture discussion and prayer The members of the voluntary committee are Lorna Downey, Fr. Ben Hegarty OP, Rosalie Moloney, Marian Mortell, Phil Mortell and Fr. Seán O’Sullivan.

In Spring of next year, a four night module will be offered on the God of Justice in Scala, Blackrock, Cork. If anyone is interested in finding out more about the module or Unfolding the Word, they can contact corkscripturegroup@nullgmail.com
